Our world has never been more interconnected, and yet isolation is also on the rise. All kinds of social groups—including young adults, single people, LGBTQ+ people, men of all ages, and the whole American adult population—have been described as facing a “loneliness epidemic.” The problem only gets worse when we equate intimacy with sex: People turn to romantic or sexual relationships to satisfy their longings for intimacy, then find themselves constantly hungry for more. How can we experience and cultivate real, lasting intimacy in a world like this? What do healthy relationships look like, and how do we guard against their unhealthy substitutes? We’ll discuss all this and more with Dr. Erin Moniz, associate chaplain at Baylor University and author of Knowing and Being Known: Hope for All Our Intimate Relationships.
