As kids grow and gain independence, parents’ roles change. Adolescent and adult kids will increasingly form their own beliefs and make their own choices—including beliefs and choices about faith, friendships, sexuality, and relationships. How can Christian parents continue to love their adult kids like Jesus does, even and especially when these kids move away from their parents’ convictions?

Because Christian parents love our kids, our instinct is often to shelter them from anything in the outside world that might confuse, challenge, or hurt them. Unfortunately, sheltering our kids is only a temporary strategy. Sooner or later, every kid faces the world’s brokenness for themselves, with or without our help. How can we start preparing our kids to navigate hurt and sin and brokenness without losing their love for Jesus in the process? How can we help foster a resilient faith strong that’s enough to withstand life’s storms?
